Biotin Helps Prevent Hair Loss and Promotes Hair Growth
Recent lab research combining the tripeptide GHK with biotin demonstrated a 58-120% increase in hair length. At 58% the effect on hair growth of this biotinylated molecule matched that of minoxidil. In a study measuring the effect of oral biotin supplementation on nail health, seven of nine study participants with hair loss (both alopecia and telogen effluvium) reported improvement in their hair. These patients were taking 2.5 mg/day of biotin. Experts suggest taking high dosage (5 mg) biotin to help prevent further hair loss.24-26
In addition to oral administration of biotin supplementation to reverse hair loss, topical products are available for use. According to statistics provided by the FDA, many cosmetic and personal care products contain biotin. Most are hair products such as shampoos, conditioners, tonics and other hair-grooming formulations, and the rest are a variety of makeup and skin-care products. The concentrations of biotin in many of these formulations range from as little as 0.0001% to about 0.6%, with the higher concentrations usually being found in various face and neck preparations (excluding shaving products).27-28
